AT HOME IN DARIEN ANNUAL LUNCHEON
Thursday, May 29th from 11:30am to 1:00pm, Darien Community Association, 274 Middlesex Road. Registration is required for this free event. Please RSVP by May 15th by calling 203-655-2227. Space is limited. 
All Darien residents 60 years of age and older are invited to join us for our Annual Luncheon, co-sponsored by the Darien Community Association, featuring guest speaker Art Gottlieb. Mr. Gottlieb, a licensed clinical social worker, brings over 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist and counselor in his private practice. He has spoken extensively as a geriatric clinician throughout senior centers and assisted living facilities in Fairfield County and offers a blend of humor, expertise, and sensitivity for his audiences. Mr. Gottlieb will speak to the luncheon guests about recognizing, managing, and adapting to life’s milestones and changes. Check in begins at 11:00am, and a complimentary lunch will begin at 11:30am. Space is limited. Please respond early to ensure a seat at this popular event.  

ALICE! AN ADAPATION OF ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND & THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

At Home In Darien is partnering with Middlesex Middle School to provide a free theatre experience for Darien’s senior citizens! Seniors can attend this dress rehearsal free of charge and enjoy free transportation to and from the Middle School. Step into the whimsical world of Alice!, where reality bends and curiosity reigns. Follow our curious Alice as she journeys through Wonderland, encountering eccentric characters like the White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat, each more peculiar than the last. Alice’s adventures are filled with wit, absurdity, and wonder, exploring the playful nature and the limitless possibilities of the imagination.

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
The Town of Darien’s Monuments and Ceremonies Commission will be hosting the traditional Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26th. The Parade will commence at 10:00am sharp, starting from Old King’s Market (formerly Goodwives Shopping Center,) marching up the Post Road to Spring Grove Veterans Cemetery. A Commemoration Ceremony honoring those who lost their lives while serving in the Armed Forces will take place in Spring Grove Veterans Cemetery at 11:15am. Any organization interested in marching in the parade should email the parade committee at: [email protected].

WEED AND PEAR TREE BEACH PERMITS
Beach permits are now on sale. Darien senior citizens ages 65+ can obtain one free beach permit per family, which may be obtained either in-person at the Parks and Recreation Department (located in Town Hall) or on-line. Proof of residency is required in form of current Darien motor vehicle registration. Please click here for more details.  

ELDERLY TAX RELIEF
If you have any questions, please call the Town of Darien Assessor’s Office at 203-656-7310.

Homeowners 65 or over may be eligible for tax credits on their real estate property tax under the Circuit Breaker (State Program), Town Program, or Elderly Tax Deferral. Applications must be filed by Thursday, May 15, 2025.  Any homeowner reaching the age of 65 on or before December 31, 2024, and qualifies within the income limits, should apply in the Assessor’s Office, Room 102 at Town Hall. To be eligible for credit, income must not exceed $64,100 for married couples or $54,200 for single persons. All income, including Social Security, must be reported. Documentation, such as a copy of your 2024 Social Security 1099 form and a copy of your 2024 Federal Income Tax Return, is required.

CT RENTER’S REBATE PROGRAM
Darien Human Services is accepting applications for the 2025 CT Renter’s Rebate Program until August 28th. To ask questions or to make an appointment, please call the Human Services Department at 203-656-7328 Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 5:15pm.
Eligibly requirements:
1.    Must be 65 years of age as of December 31, 2024, or disabled and collecting Social Security Disability payments.
2.    Current renter with one year or more of residency in Connecticut.
3.    Income must not exceed $45,200 for a single person or $55,100 for a married couple.
4.    Disabled persons under the age of 65 must show proof of Social Security Disability.
5.    Copy of 2024 income tax return is required.
6.    Proof of income must include:
–       Social Security (Form 1099)
–       Pensions
–       Bank account interest
–       Dividends
–       Wages
Proof of rent and utilities for all 12 months or the months rent was paid in 2024. A printout from the utility company, receipt of rent payment from a landlord, and canceled checks are all acceptable

BOYS OF THE CHINESE EDUCATIONAL MISSION

This workshop is designed to increase awareness and understanding of hurricane-related flood risks, how to protect property, and potentially save lives. The workshop is sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the University of Connecticut, and the National Weather Service.
