It costs nothing, but creates much. It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash, and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None are so rich they can get along without it, and none so poor but are richer for its benefits. It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and Nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody till it is given away. Excerpted from the “The Value of a Smile”.

Smiling is an expression denoting pleasure, happiness or amusement. A smile is formed by simply flexing the muscles at the sides of the mouth. When you smile the muscles that contract cause a release of chemicals in your brain that actually make you feel happier.

Smiling has many benefits that can improve your quality of life:

  • Improves Mood
  • Lowers Blood Pressure
  • Reduces Stress
  • Strengthens Relationships
  • Enhances Immune Function
  • Relieves Pain
  • Boosts Productivity
  • Increases Creativity

A genuine smile is best, but even a fake smile can do the trick! So if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, have a disagreement with a loved one, or are just feeling down, try a smile.

And did you ever notice that smiles are contagious?  Friends or even complete strangers will reciprocate a smile after you share one. Give it a try and take note of the results – it will make you smile!

Smiling is beneficial for your mind, body, and overall well-being. If you want an inexpensive way to live a happier and healthier life, simply smile!
